EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's basketball team opened up its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division slate with a 54-49 win over East Stroudsburg University Wednesday at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Golden Bears (11-3, 1-0 PSAC East) were led by Katie Dovey (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) (jr. Willow Hill/Fannett-Metal), who had a team-high 15 points.
KU struggled in the second half shooting, making only four field goals, but 16 free throws helped the Golden Bears fend off the Warriors, who trailed by 14 at half.
East Stroudsburg (7-7, 0-1 PSAC East), after trailing 29-15, tied the game at 41-41, but Lara Dellegrotti (sr. Berwick/Berwick) scored seven straight points for KU — a 3-pointer and four free throws — to put the Golden Bears ahead again. She finished with 10 points.
The Warriors, who were led by Jackie Yandrisevits' 23 points and 15 rebounds, could not tie the game back up after Dellegrotti's 3-pointer.
The Golden Bears will return to the court on Sat. to take on Millersville in a PSAC East match at 1 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
