KU falls 83-76 at Cheyney

CHEYNEY, Pa. — Four players finished in double-digits, but it wasn't enough as the Kutztown University women's basketball team fell 83-76 to Cheyney University Wednesday at Cope Hall.

Lara Dellegrotti (sr. Berwick/Berwick), who hit three 3-pointers, led the Golden Bears with 15 points in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest.

Melissa McQuade (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) (so. Pittsburgh/Shaler) and Chauntelle Schroeder (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA/Mother Teresa) (jr. Toronto, Ont./Mother Theresa) scored 14, and Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton) hit four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. McQuade also had nine rebounds and five assists.

KU (15-5, 5-2 PSAC East) trailed 42-35 at halftime, but battle back to take the lead several times in the second half. Cheyney (10-7, 5-2 PSAC East) pulled away once more, only to have KU cut it to one point, 68-67, with 4:32 left.

Cheyney held the lead, though, making 12 of 14 free throws over the final 4:14 to seal the win. The Wolves finished 19-of-24 at the line, while KU was 16-of-17.

Cheyney's Angel Stephens and Martina Randall led the way, scoring 23 and 22 points, respectively. Cheyney also got 12 points from Stephanie Orji, and 11 from Lutfiyya Muhammad and Gaelen Quinton.

KU will return home to host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East matchup at 1 p.m. Saturday at Keystone Hall.
