Steve Heck is in his 15th season as the wide receivers coach at Kutztown in 2022.
Since starting at KU in 2008, Heck's wide receivers have earned 12 All-PSAC honors, including five First Team selections. He has led 11 Golden Bear receivers to currently rank on KU career leaderboards for all-time receptions, receiving yards and/or touchdowns.
Heck's top receiving core came to fruition in 2011, when five active receivers had 1,000 career receiving yards, the most on one Golden Bear team in school history. That quintet also held an active total of 81 career touchdowns at the end of the 2011 season, the most for any team in school history.
Heck had three 1,000-yard receivers in two straight seasons in 2014 and 2015, which helped the team set the school-record for total offense in 2015 at 488.8 per game.
One of Heck's top receivers was Kodi Reed (2012-15). A two-time All-PSAC honoree, Reed graduated with every career receiving record in school history: consecutive games with a catch (44), receptions (202), yards (2,857) and touchdowns (29). One year later, Kellen Williams (2013-16) broke those records with 214 receptions, 2,970 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Heck came to Kutztown from Reading Central Catholic, where he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2007. From 2004-06, Heck coached receivers at Albright College. Prior to Albright, Heck served on the staff at Schuylkill Valley High School, coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers from 1997-2003 and serving as offensive coordinator from 1997-2000.
For two seasons, 1996 and 1998, Heck was the head junior varsity coach at Schuylkill Valley, from which he graduated in 1992.
Heck received his bachelor’s degree in English from Lebanon Valley in 1996.
