SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. and PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Kutztown men's outdoor track & field had a duo of field athletes head to Philadelphia to compete in the annual Penn Relays and the rest of the contingent took part in the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University Saturday.
 
At Penn Relays, Andrew Szeplaki (Bath, Pa./Northampton) bettered his PR and program record in the pole vault, finishing third out of 13 vaulters with a best clearance of 5.27m (17-3.5), an NCAA Provisional. Kevin Givone (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) was the other representative in Philly and threw a PSAC qualifying mark of 57.13m (187-5).
 
It was a smaller than normal group of Golden Bears at the Kaiser Classic. One of the main highlights of the day was Gabe Sample (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) winning the long jump in a PSAC jump of 6.95m (22-9.75). That was the lone qualifying standard Saturday.
 
Steele Wrigley (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara), Miles Davis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) and Casey Huie (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) all finished inside the top 10 overall in their respective events.
 
Kutztown will now turn its attention to the postseason when it will have a number of student-athletes come right back to Shippensburg for the PSAC Outdoor Championships, beginning next Thursday, April 30, and running through Saturday, May 2.
