CARLISLE, Pa. -- Kutztown University men's tennis earned the first four points to defeat Dickinson, 4-3, at the Hays Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (3-4) quickly took control in doubles with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to grab a 1-0 lead in the match. The second pairing of
Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) and
Terrell Arejola (Quezon City, Philippines/Southville International School and Colleges) turned back Drew Allen and Sandro Buskhrikidze, 6-3, before KU's No. 3 team of
Patrick Young (Belfast, Northern Ireland/) and
Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) held off Jack Weaver and Ryan Whiting, 6-4.
Kutztown won three straight singles matches against the NCAA Division III Red Devils (1-5) to clinch the win. It proved to be vital as Dickinson won the final three available points.
Young won at fourth singles when Buskhrikidze retired in the opening set down two games to one.
Raphael Hoareau Lebon (Saint-Joseph, Réunion/) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Whiting at No. 6 and Robinson won by the same scores against Weaver at No. 5.
Dickinson's wins came at first, second and third singles.
Kutztown will now have a week and a half to prepare for its next match, a non-conference tilt against NCAA Division I Lafayette at the Keystone Courts on Wednesday, March 11, at 3 p.m.
