PHILADELPHIA – The Kutztown University men's track & field team had arguably its best meet of the season, Saturday, setting a pair of program records, posting two NCAA provisional qualifying times and winning two events as the Widener Indoor Classic concluded at the University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center.
Â
Junior
Jaydon Witman (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) captured the 60-meter hurdles with a school record and NCAA provisional time of 8.13. Witman, who ranked third in team history with an 8.32 coming into the meet, set a new PR in preliminary heats with an 8.28 before following that performance up with his record-setting effort in the final. The Hamburg, Pa., native topped
Kyle Love's (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) former record of 8.24 set in December 2024.
Â
60-meter dash school record holder and returning All-American
Michael Fellin (Sheppton, Pa./Marian Catholic) won the event for the fourth time in five meets this season. Fellin set NCAA provisional times in both prelims (6.81) and the final (6.74), with his final time representing a season-best and the 16th-fastest time in NCAA DII this season.
Â
Joining Fellin in the 60m final for Kutztown were freshman
Kymanni Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) and junior
Daron Haggans (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). Johnson improved upon his third-best time in program history with a personal record of 6.83 to finish third, while Haggans placed seventh with a 6.93.
Â
Senior
Adam Brocato (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) took down another school record when he ran a personal best 4:14.10 to take fourth place among 53 competitors in the mile. Brocato jumped from fifth to the top spot on KU's all-time top 10, breaking Steve Maine's former record of 4:16.09 that stood since February 2018.
Â
The Golden Bears totaled 17 PSAC qualifying cuts and four program top 10 times.
Â
Trey Hamlin III (Townsend, Del./Caravel Academy) collected two more PSAC marks, taking third in the long jump with a best jump of 6.97m (22-10.5) and ninth in the triple jump with a top performance of 14.14m (46-4.75).
Â
Haggans,
Steele Wrigley (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara),
Joe Cavalcante (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) and
James Washburn (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) placed third among 15 teams in the 4x400m relay with a 3:19.80, just shy of their 3:19.67 from last season that ranks seventh all-time at KU. Washburn also ran to eighth in the 400m with a PSAC qualifying 49.67.
Â
In the 200m, Johnson and Fellin set PSAC cut times with 10th and 11th place finishes, respectively. Johnson ran 22.07 and Fellin 22.14.
Â
Robby Lloyd (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led three KU distance entries in the 3000m, finishing 11th in 8:41.45, while sophomore teammate
Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) ran the eighth-fastest time in school history with an 8:44.35 to place 13th in the 47-runner field.
Â
The Golden Bears are scheduled to wrap up the regular season with the Kutztown Last Chance Meet at O'Pake Fieldhouse next Friday, Feb. 20, beginning at 4 p.m.
