WEST CHESTER, Pa. – For the second time in as many matches, the Kutztown women's volleyball team was victorious in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division road match, having taken down West Chester Saturday afternoon 3-0.
The Golden Bears (16-3 overall, 4-1 PSAC East), who won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-22, earned their fourth consecutive conference victory and second in-a-row away from home. They finished off an undefeated weekend Saturday after defeating Bloomsburg in four sets Friday night at home.
The KU offense actually had less total kills on the day (37-33), but still did enough to go into enemy territory and come out with a victory, without dropping any sets.
In the opening set, the Maroon and Gold fell behind 2-0 before taking a 7-3 lead on a kill by
Ellie White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) and then continued to pour on to go up as many as 11 (20-9) and then finish off the set with a kill from
Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa). Just as happened in set two, Kutztown fell behind early as the Golden Rams (8-10, 1-4) recorded four of the first five points before the Golden Bears started their rally. Tied 7-7,
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) tallied a kill to give her squad an 8-7 edge and the visitors led the rest of the way for the 2-0 lead in the match. In the third set, WCU held its latest lead of the day at 21-19, but KU scored three points in-a-row and then six of the last seven to earn the sweep.
Skinner led the attack with 11 kills and had seven digs. Bogovic finished with seven kills and 11 digs and White tallied seven kills and three blocks.
Grace White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) recorded five kills and two blocks.
Jaedyn Bartholomew (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) notched two kills, four blocks and two digs.
Abby Polo (Coventry, Conn./Coventry) contributed 14 assists and
Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) had nine assists and six digs.
Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) added 10 digs and
Julia Riley (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) had nine.
Kutztown will remain on the road for its next match, also in the PSAC, when it takes on Shepherd next Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
