KU downs Bloomsburg to record first PSAC East home victory

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown women's volleyball earned its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division home win Friday night, defeating Bloomsburg in four sets at Brandywine Heights Area High School.

The Golden Bears (15-3 overall, 3-1 PSAC East), who won by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, swept the season series with the Huskies (7-8, 0-5), taking both matches, including a five-setter at Bloomsburg back on Sept. 19. Although BU hasn't recorded a conference victory to date, it still plays competitively. Just like in the last match nearly two weeks ago, KU couldn't just coast to a sweep, although it trended that way early on.

The Maroon and Gold came out on top in the first two sets and, for the most part, were dominant in doing so. After an almost double digit victory in the opening set, they led 23-13 late in the second set, but Bloomsburg rattled off nine of the next 10 points to give itself momentum heading into the third set. And the visitors used it to get on the scoreboard with a third set win, but the hosts made sure to not get to the pivotal fifth set and never trailed in the fourth to walk off winners.

Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) led all attackers with 19 kills and finished with a double-double, adding 11 digs. Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) tallied 13 kills and eight digs. Grace White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) tallied nine kills and four blocks and Jaedyn Bartholomew (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) ended with eight kills and a team-best five blocks. Ellie White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) had three kills and four blocks. Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) also finished with a double-double, ending with 24 assists and 11 digs, and Abby Polo (Coventry, Conn./Coventry) contributed 21 assists. Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) had 19 digs and Julia Riley (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) finished with eight.

Kutztown has a quick turnaround and hits the road for a conference match at West Chester tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m.
