Soccer enters national poll at No. 23 heading into second week

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown women's soccer team won each of its first two games of the 2025 season, enabling a rise into the 25-team United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll, where they enter as the 23rd best team in the nation, the organization announced Tuesday.

The Golden Bears (2-0 overall) defeated non-conference foes Concord and Mansfield by a combined 9-1 margin to open its season. Senior forward Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) led the charge with a hat trick in the 4-1 victory over the Mountain Lions, while the team outshot the Mountaineers 32-1 in its 5-0 win to wrap up the first week of play.

McDonald was recognized as the season's first PSAC East Athlete of the Week on Monday, while the Maroon and Gold saw seven different goal scorers in its two victories.

This marks the fifth consecutive season Kutztown has opened the season without a loss in its first two games, and the fourth of five seasons that begin with a 2-0 record. The squad is ranked for the 18th consecutive season, all under head coach Erik Burstein.

Shepherd (No. 5) and Gannon (No. 10) are ahead of the Golden Bears in the polls, while Bloomsburg is listed among those teams receiving votes.

Kutztown welcomes the Millersville Marauders to Keystone Field for its home opener tonight at 7 p.m. before heading back on the road for a meeting with Lock Haven on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
