Cody Barberio (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown),
Jared Ferguson (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) and
Nick Varda (Columbia, Md./Atholton) of the Kutztown University baseball have been team have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
To be eligible for inclusion on the team, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status academically and athletically, and hold a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must also compete in 90 percent or start in at least 66 percent of their team's games. Pitchers must make at least 17 appearances or throw 35 innings.
Barberio is pursuing his master's degree in public administration (criminal justice) and holds a 3.67 GPA after earning his undergraduate degree with a 3.54 GPA in criminal justice in May, 2024. The Green Lane, Pa., native pitched in 10 games this past season, going 3-4 with 26 strikeouts across 56.1 innings.
Ferguson and Varda each completed their first seasons with the Golden Bears in 2025 after transferring into the program.
Ferguson, a sophomore from Reinholds, Pa., had a 3.87 GPA at the time of his nomination. He is majoring in business administration with a management concentration. Ferguson spent a majority of his season at designated hitter but also appeared in the outfield for KU. He owned the second-best batting average on the team at .347 with 41 hits in 118 at-bats. Ferguson played in 42 games, starting 41, and collected 13 doubles, three home runs, 22 runss cored and a team-leading 33 runs batted in.
Varda started all 47 games at shortstop for the Maroon and Gold. The redshirt junior from Columbia, Md., has a 3.93 GPA while majoring in sport management. Varda produced a .301 batting average (41-for-136) with six doubles, two homers, 24 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
