KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Just like Tuesday's KU Male Athlete of the Year Freddie Retter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown), his teammate on the gridiron, Trey Hamlin III (Townsend, Del./Caravel Academy), was a dual sport student-athlete this past year. The freshman competed in football and track & field and his successful year led him to be voted the 2024-25 KU Male Freshman of the Year, announced Thursday.

In track & field, Hamlin earned USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region in the triple jump and medaled with a third place finish in the long jump at both PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He holds top 10 marks for indoor in the long jump (4th) and triple jump (4th) and in the outdoor triple jump (8th) and long jump (10th).

On the gridiron, Hamlin appeared in one game during the 2024 season as a defensive back and finished with three tackles (two solo, one assist).

Hamlin III is the second straight member of the football program to achieve KU Male Freshman of the Year and the first track & field student-athlete since 2021.

Presented annually since 1993, the Kutztown University Athletics Male Freshman of the Year award recognizes a first-year Golden Bear for outstanding athletic achievement. The award is voted upon by athletic department administration, coaches and support staff.
