Kutztown completes successful two-day Paul Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – In one of the final major competitions before the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, the Kutztown men's outdoor track & field team found a lot of success in many different events Friday and Saturday at the Paul Kiser Classic at Shippensburg University.

On Friday, both competitors earned PSAC-qualifying standards as Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) placed second overall in the 10,000m at 32:20.56 and Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) finished third out of 35 competitors in the hammer throw with a best throw of 54.64m (179-3), ranking fourth all-time in program history.

On Saturday, a trio of high jumpers earned NCAA Provisionals and top 10 program marks and they were joined by seven Golden Bears who achieved PSAC marks in their respective events and another who reached top 10 in the 3,000m.

TJ White (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), Kyle Archie (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and Josh McKoy (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) all cleared best jumps of 2.05m (6-8.75), which is an NCAA Provisional and tied for seventh-best all-time at KU. Jake Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) placed fourth overall in the shot put at 15.84m (51-11.75), fifth all-time in program lore and a PSAC mark. Jack Hollar's (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) 9:00.76 in the 3,000m ranks sixth all-time.

For PSAC Championships, Willie Wiles (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) crossed the finish line in 10:00.23 in the 3,000m steeplechase to highlight the track runners. Both pole vaulters in Nate Schaeffer (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Caleb Tryninewski (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) earned PSAC marks, as did both long jumpers in Trey Hamlin III (Townsend, Del./Caravel Academy) and Gabe Sample (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg). Hamlin III also hit a PSAC cut mark in the triple jump. Anthony Helmstetter (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) earned a PSAC standard in the javelin.

Kutztown completes its regular season on Friday, May 2, at the West Chester University Tune Up, and then will prepare for PSAC Outdoor Championships, starting Thursday, May 8, at Slippery Rock University.
