NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) and
Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) put forth five game averages in excess of 202 to place in the top 10 of the individual standings as the Kutztown University women's bowling team kicked off play at the Northeast Roundup with three wins on Saturday.
Hanaway took seventh overall with a 202.40 average, backed by a high game of 236 against Adelphi. Teammate Sromovoski was in close pursuit, placing eighth with a 202.20 average and three 200+ games.
The Golden Bears (53-39) used Sromovski's 226 and a 181 by Hanaway to edge host Wilmington (Del.) by the slimmest of margins, 892-891, to open the day.
Meghan Ripley (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) added a 163, while
Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and
Brooke Heimbach (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) each rolled 161.
Hanaway (236) and Heimbach (224) registered their best games of the day as Kutztown put up its high score as a team in a 978-806 victory over Adelphi. The Maroon and Gold also topped 900 pins in a 914-865 win against Long Island University. Sromovski led the way with a 237 score, best of any KU player on the day. Hanaway followed at 198 and Ripley at 182.
Despite a 201 from Hanaway, the Golden Bears dropped their fourth game of the day to Molloy, 941-840.
Miranda Pielhau (Waretown, N.J./Southern Regional) stepped in to roll a team-best 220 against Bryant but the Bulldogs emerged with a 972-904 win to relegate the Golden Bears to 3-2 in traditional play.
Kutztown ranks sixth overall with a score of 4,502 and a 180.1 average. The Bears will face Dominican (N.Y.), Niagara and St. Thomas Aquinas in Baker format play Sunday before the teams are matched up based on qualifying position for a best-of-seven Baker match to close out the tournament.
