DEPTFORD, N.J. – The Kutztown University bowling team competed on the first day of Chestnut Hill's Griffin Baker Classic, battling to a 4-1 record in baker competition at the Bowlero Deptford on Saturday.

The Golden Bears (32-24 overall) defeated four teams to start the two-day competition, opening with a win over East Coast Conference foe Adelphi, 891-844. They rolled their highest-scoring match in a 1040-856 battle with Dominican (N.Y.) and won their final two matches against Caldwell (1023-992) and Alvernia (949-883). Their lone loss came against No. 23 Felician, where the Golden Falcons rolled a 267 in game four to propel their way to a 996-910 win over Kutztown.

Head coach Angela Reynolds rolled with a lineup of Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton), Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York), Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) in that order for all five matches. KU finished strong with a day-high 238 in the fifth game of their win over Alvernia, while the squad rolled eight games of at least 200 pins.

The Maroon and Gold remain on the National Tenpin Coaches Association's radar in their latest top-25 rankings, sitting alongside eight other programs in the receiving votes category of their December Poll. The organization is set to release both a combined poll and a DII/III poll following this weekend's competition.

The Golden Bears are scheduled to bowl four games tomorrow, Feb. 2 – the first two against Belmont Abbey and Wilmington (Del.), and the latter set against teams with similar results that determine the final rankings to close out the Griffin Baker Classic.
