Bowling’s Brenneman sisters earn conference honors after home performances

COLONIA, N.J. – After a pair of top-15 finishes to help lead the Kutztown University women's bowling team to the tournament crown at the home Golden Bear Invite this past weekend, senior Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and sophomore Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) were recognized by the East Coast Conference in the organization's weekly awards, as announced Thursday afternoon.

The elder sister picked up ECC Conference Co-Bowler of the Week honors after her fourth-place finish in traditional competition. The fourth-year kegler bowled a 193 pinfall average over five traditional games on Saturday, including a day-high 237 in the fourth match victory over #23 Delaware State and a 218-pin performance in the second match against Holy Family. She struck on 48 percent of traditional attempts (24/50) while converting spares in nearly 70 percent of remaining frames and averaged an 84 percent fill percentage in both baker and traditional competition.

As a pivotal part of Kutztown's successful weekend, Madison moved all around the lineup in baker play on Sunday, rolling 11 of her frames in the leadoff, setup, or anchor bowler positions.

The younger sibling and reigning ECC Rookie of the Year was recognized on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll after finishing 13th in traditional play while averaging a team-high 84 percent fill rate in baker competition. She opened the weekend averaging 176 pins per game in traditional play with day-high 189-pin performances against Caldwell and No. 23 Delaware State on Saturday. The second-year bowler converted nearly 60 percent of her spares in Saturday's competition and filled in as the leadoff bowler for a majority of Sunday's baker competition, averaging nearly nine pins per first ball and a 70 percent spare conversion rate.

The duo out of York, Pa., helped lead the Golden Bears (13-2 overall) to an 8-2 record on the weekend, defeating No. 23 Delaware State and claiming the top spot at the home tournament after defeating Dominican, 4-1.

The Golden Bears will return to the lanes in two weeks, as they travel to the Lady Eagles Invitational, hosted by Coppin State University, a two-day tournament set to take place Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, at AMF Woodlawn in Gwynn Oak, Md.
