GWYNN OAK, Md. – The Kutztown University bowling team continued its dominant start to the year at the Lady Eagles Invitational, hosted by Coppin State, going a perfect 5-0 in traditional competition on Saturday at AMF Woodlawn Lanes in Gwynn Oak, Md.
The Golden Bears (18-2 overall) recorded their third perfect day of competition out of four days this season, opening the day with a trio of 100-pin wins against St. Thomas Aquinas (823-512), Fayetteville State (918-735) and Chestnut Hill (907-785) before closing out the afternoon with a set of strong victories over Bowie State (907-845) and Belmont Abbey (954-944).
Reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year
Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) dominated the lanes on the opening day, leading the team in all five matches while rolling four 200-pin games in the last four games of the day. Her 256-pin performance was the driver in KU's second win of the day, while her 225-pin game contributed to the Golden Bears' close victory in the Saturday's final match.
Rookie
Ashley Kuster (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) and senior
Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton) each turned in 200-pin games in the third and fifth matches, respectively. Kuster's 201 aided the Golden Bears as a number of bowlers saw the lanes against Chestnut Hill, while
Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton) rolled a 204-game to help the team get over the hump against Belmont Abbey.
Kutztown's four games of at least 900 pins are the most in a single day this season, while its 954-pin output against Belmont Abbey is second best mark of the young season to the 1036-pin mark reached in the team's baker victory over Alvernia on November 2.
The Golden Bear keglers seek the top mark at the Lady Eagles Invitational tomorrow, November 16, with baker competition starting at 9 a.m. at AMF Woodlawn Lanes.Â
