KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The no. 2-seeded Kutztown University field hockey team will host no. 7-seeded Assumption in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
Kutztown is making its ninth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its third straight trip to the national field. Under head coach
Marci Scheuing, the PSAC Field Hockey Coach of the Year, the Golden Bears are 3-0 in NCAA first-round games, earning wins over Southern New Hampshire in 2019 and 2024, and Pace in 2023.
The Golden Bears enter the postseason ranked no. 1 in the NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll and no. 2 in the NCAA bracket following another record-setting campaign. KU finished the regular season 18-0 with a 19-game winning streak, matching the program record for most wins in a single year. Now 19-1 overall, the Golden Bears look to bounce back in the NCAA tournament.
Kutztown is looking to make its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship Game after capturing the program's first national title in 2023 and finishing as national runner-up in 2024.
Assumption enters with a 13-6 overall record, advancing to the Northeast-10 semifinals before falling to Bentley. The Greyhounds are led offensively by Elle Murray and Daisy Stone, who have combined for 23 goals and 56 points this season.
Kutztown holds a 7-1 all-time advantage in the series, though the two programs haven't met since 2016. Saturday will mark the first postseason meeting between the Golden Bears and the Greyhounds.
Statistically, KU has been dominant on both ends of the field, leading Division II with 98 goals scored while allowing just 12. The Golden Bears also rank first nationally in penalty corners (282), averaging over 14 per game. Senior forward
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot), the PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Year, leads KU with 17 goals and 40 points, while freshman goalkeeper
Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence), the PSAC Field Hockey Freshman of the Year, has been a force in the cage with a .804 save percentage and 10 shutouts.
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the NCAA semifinals, hosted by Bloomsburg University on Friday, Nov. 21.
