KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) of the Kutztown field hockey team and Ryan Schernecke (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) of Golden Bear football were voted Kutztown University athletics senior athletes of the year for 2025-26.
 
The awards were voted upon by the athletic department's coaches, administration and support staff, and presented to the recipients at the All-Sports Celebration this past Monday night.
 
A native of East Earl, Gonzalez's career accolades include the 2025 PSAC Athlete of the Year, a two-time NFHCA All-American (2025 First Team, 2024 Second Team), 2025 All-Atlantic Region First Team, a three-time All-PSAC selection (2025 First Team, 2024 Second Team, 2023 Third Team) and ranks seventh all-time at KU with 47 career goals.
 
A native of Hatboro, Scherneck's highlights include a Walter Camp DII All-American, AP Second Team All-American, AFCA Second Team All-American, D2CCA Second Team All-American, Gene Upshaw DII Lineman of the Year finalist, a two-time D2CCA Super Region I (2025 First Team, 2024 Second Team) selection and a three-time All-PSAC East selection (2024/2025 First Team, 2023 Second Team).
