KUTZTOWN, Pa. – It was a perfect weekend for Kutztown women's volleyball as KU followed up a Friday night straight set victory to earn another win less than 24 hours later, this one in four sets over Lock Haven Saturday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division matchup inside Keystone Arena.
Â
The Golden Bears (12-12 overall, 4-6 PSAC East) evened their record and got some revenge on the Bald Eagles (8-16, 4-6), who defeated KU in four sets at their place back on Oct. 18. Scores of the match were 25-18, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-20. The Maroon and Gold sit in fifth place in the East standings, just two games back for a playoff spot.
Â
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) had an all-around good match, stuffing the stat sheet with a double-double, ending with team-highs of 18 kills and 19 digs, while adding an assist and service ace.
Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) also finished with a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs, along with three aces.
Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) formed a trio of double-doubles, recording 42 assists and 17 digs, as well as three blocks and a kill.
Grace White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) tallied 10 kills and three blocks and
Lauren Montgomery (Norristown, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy) contributed six kills, two digs, two blocks and an assist.
Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) added 16 digs, six assists and three aces.
Â
Even though, as of Saturday night, both teams were just outside of the playoff picture, the match had a playoff feel to it with each team proudly celebrating points and exciting plays.
Â
The Golden Bears used a 7-0 run to stake to a 10-2 lead in set one and got on the scoreboard first in the match. After the Bald Eagles responded in set two to even up the match, KU battled back in front of the home crowd and used another early run to take a sizeable lead and finish out the set as they took a 5-3 advantage and turned it into a 12-3 lead and they were able to hold on from a late LHU push, ending the set on a Skinner kill. Kutztown then made sure to end the night early instead of going to a pivotal fifth set as it overcame a 15-9 deficit to score seven of eight and seal the deal.
Â
Kutztown hits the road for the final time this regular season for two matches next weekend. KU is at West Chester next Friday, Nov. 7, for a 6 p.m., match, and then will be at Millersville Saturday at 2 p.m.
