KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Steven Burkhardt (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) ran for a career-high 146 yards and two touchdowns as No. 4 Kutztown remained unbeaten with a 49-0 PSAC East victory over Shippensburg, Saturday, at Andre Reed Stadium. For his efforts, Burkhardt was named this week's PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Â
Burkhardt scored his first TD of the afternoon on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter to give the Golden Bears a 14-0 lead. After a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown to start the second half was wiped off the board by a penalty, the Gloucester City, N.J., native took the first play of the half 91 yards to the house for a 28-0 advantage. The run was the longest of Burkhardt's career and marked KU's longest TD run since Terry Williams' school record 98-yard TD run against East Stroudsburg in 2015.
Â
Burkhardt averaged 12.2 yards per carry with 12 carries on the day. He accounted for more than half of Kutztown's rushing yardage as the Bears went over 200 yards on the ground for the sixth consecutive game (243) dating back to last year.
