KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown and East Stroudsburg women's volleyball met for the second time in as many days, after playing inside Koehler Fieldhouse Friday night. Unlike the night before, the match was decided quicker as ESU defeated KU in straight sets Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division match at Keystone Arena.
Â
Scores of the match were 21-25, 18-25, 20-25.
Â
The Golden Bears (10-12 overall, 2-6 PSAC East), who took the Warriors (17-5, 7-2) to five sets last night and were just a couple points from winning the match, had a tougher go of it on their home court.
Â
East Stroudsburg has a strong day offensively as its attackers finished with a .179 hit percentage, compared to .109 from Kutztown's. The Warriors never trailed by more than four points throughout the match and they did a good job on the front line of the Maroon and Gold, who finished with 33 kills on the day, the third-lowest in a match this season.
Â
Both
Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) and
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) ended with nine kills, with Bogovic adding 15 digs and Skinner totaling four.
Grace White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) tallied eight kills and two blocks.
Brianna Townsend (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) recorded three kills and each of
Alex Haskins (State College, Pa./State College) and
Lauren Montgomery (Norristown, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy) had two kills and combined for five blocks.
Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) contributed 31 assists and nine digs and
Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) added 23 digs, with
Mallory Hoch (Zionsville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) earning five digs.
Â
In the opening set, Kutztown scored six of the first nine points overall and held a 10-6 advantage before East Stroudsburg rallied for four points in-a-row. The Warriors were down 18-16 and then went on a 9-3 run to take the first set.
Â
In a back-and-forth second set, Montgomery recorded a kill to put her team on top 13-12, but that was the last lead for KU the rest of the way as ESU scored three in-a-row and held off the Golden Bears. In the third set, Skinner gave the Maroon and Gold a 3-2 edge early on following a kill, but the Warriors scored six of the next seven points and never looked back, leading by as many as six before finishing off the match.
Â
Kutztown remains at home for its next match, a Halloween match on Friday, Oct. 31, against Bloomsburg at 6 p.m., from Keystone Arena.
