Women’s volleyball suffers setback at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Kutztown women's volleyball fell in a hole early on, fought back, but came up just short in a four-set defeat Saturday night at Lock Haven.

The loss snapped a two-match win streak for the Golden Bears (10-10 overall, 2-4 PSAC East). Scores of the match were 22-25, 14-25, 25-12, 23-25.

Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) finished with a team-high 13 kills and nine digs. Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Alex Haskins (State College, Pa./State College) totaled 10 kills and a season-high three blocks. Grace White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) tallied eight kills, one block and one dig. Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) also had a double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs. Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) notched a team-high 18 digs and added three assists and three service aces.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair throughout, with neither team leading by more than three points. KU held a 21-18 advantage after a kill by White, but the Bald Eagles (6-14, 4-4) rallied to score seven of the final eight points. Lock Haven never trailed in set two and took a double digit lead at 19-9 and never looked back on its way to a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Maroon and Gold responded in the third set, not wanting to go home early after a sweep. After the Bald Eagles netted the first point, Kutztown answered with four in-a-row, highlighted by two kills from Bogovic and two attack errors by LHU. KU then turned an 8-6 advantage into a 17-7 lead and kept the foot on the gas to finish off a double figure victory.

Just as it looked like the Golden Bears would tie the match and force a deciding fifth set, holding a 21-16 edge, the Bald Eagles rallied to the tune of seven points in-a-row to go ahead 23-21 and was able to hold on in the end.

Kutztown will remain on the road for its third consecutive conference match on the road when it takes on East Stroudsburg next Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m.
