Golden Bears open home schedule with win over Moravian

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University men's tennis kicked off its home slate and concluded its fall season with a 7-0 victory over Moravian University on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (2-4) swept all three doubles matches before taking all five completed singles matches in straight sets. Dang Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam/) was also headed for a straight set victory at No. 1 singles before his opponent retired in the second set.

Luis Lopes (Piracicaba, Brazil/Colegio Saber) and Lucas Cherniak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini) vaulted KU to an early edge in doubles with a 6-3 win over the Greyhounds' (2-1) Ryan Burke and Matthew Labosky at No. 3. Cherniak was playing in his final match with the Maroon and Gold ahead of his upcoming graduation this winter. The Buenos Aires, Argentina, native finished his career with a 14-9 record in doubles, which included wins in his last six matches.

Nguyen and Henrique Rocha (Jaticua, Brazil/Escola SEB Maceio) were also 6-3 winners at No. 1 against Shayaan Farhad and Joey Kelly. Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) and Patrick Young (Belfast, Northern Ireland/) capped off doubles with a 6-4 victory over Gavin Labbadia and Roman Farhad.

Following Nguyen's win at first singles, Raphael Hoareau Lebon (Saint-Joseph, Réunion/) downed Labosky 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Robinson clinched the match for KU with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Burke at No. 5.

Terrell Arejola (Quezon City, Philippines/Southville International School and Colleges) defeated Kelly 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4, Rocha held off Labbadia 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 and Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) emerged from a first-set tiebreaker to beat Roman Farhad 7-6 (1), 6-3 at No. 3.

Kutztown will now look ahead to the spring season, where they'll play five non-conference matches before getting into PSAC play. The Bears return to action against Bluefield State on February 27, 2026.
