FROSTBURG, Md. -- Kutztown University men's tennis got off to a fast start by sweeping three doubles flights Friday, but host Frostburg State bounced back in singles to edge the Golden Bears, 4-3, in a non-conference match.
Patrick Young (Belfast, Northern Ireland/) and
Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) got the Maroon and Gold going with a 6-1 win over Noah Fisher and Nate Carter at third doubles, and Kutztown (1-4) quickly secured the doubles point with a 6-2 triumph from
Dang Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam/) and
Henrique Rocha (Jaticua, Brazil/Escola SEB Maceio) at No. 1.
Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) and
Terrell Arejola (Quezon City, Philippines/Southville International School and Colleges) held off Tiago Iser and Sergi Rodriguez in a tiebreaker at No. 2, 7-6 (5), to complete the sweep.
KU grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match when Robinson blanked Otto Hintermister 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles but Frostburg State (2-0) captured the next four points with straight set wins at No. 2, No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 to take the match.
Young downed Rodriguez 6-4, 6-3 at fifth singles to account for Kutztown's final point.
The Golden Bears will wrap up the fall season with a home match against Moravian on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 3:30 p.m.
