Hamlin III sets NCAA provisional mark in triple jump to lead Kutztown at Widener Winter Evening Invite

PHILADELPHIA – Trey Hamlin III (Townsend, Del./Caravel Academy) established the fourth-longest triple jump in Kutztown University men's indoor track & field history while posting his second straight PSAC mark and a NCAA Division II provisional mark Friday night at the Widener Winter Evening Invite held at the University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center.

Hamlin III improved upon his 14.37m (47'1.75") jump from last week's Alvernia Winter Invitational by a foot with a new personal best of 14.67m (48'1.75"). The freshman from Townsend, Del., finished runner-up in the event and moved from seventh to fourth on KU's all-time top 10 list. He also surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 14.49m.

Hamlin III was Kutztown's highest event finisher but the Maroon and Gold featured five student-athletes in the top-five of their events on the night.

Kyle Archie (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) backed up his win in the high jump at Alvernia with a third-place finish at UPenn. The freshman from Reading, Pa., cleared 1.98m (6'6") for another PSAC qualifying mark. Fellow Reading native and high school teammate at Muhlenberg, TJ White (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), placed fourth with a PSAC qualifying jump of 1.93m (6'4").

The jumpers continued to perform well with Gabe Sample (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) registering the fourth-best long jump of the meet among 29 competitors with a best effort of 6.66m (21'10.25").

On the track, Steele Wrigley (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) was KU's top finisher in fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.18), while Daron Haggans (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) (22.45) and Michael Fellin (Sheppton, Pa./Marian Catholic) (22.48) set PSAC qualifying times in the 200m to finish seventh and ninth respectively.

UPDATE (SAT. 1/25): Jake Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) made a worthwhile trip to Widener's campus on Saturday to complete the throwing events that were unable to be contested Friday night. Kelly finished second amongst 61 throwers in the shot put with a best throw of 15.52m (50'11") that qualified him for the PSAC Indoor Championships and registered as the ninth-best throw in program history. Solonoski, who took seventh in the shot put, set a PSAC qualifying mark with a runner-up finish in the weight throw (16.25m/53'3.75").

The Golden Bears will take part in the Bucknell Bison Open and Multi next weekend.
