READING, Pa. -- The Kutztown University men's indoor track & field team returned from winter break with a number of impressive performances at Saturday's Alvernia Winter Invitational. The Golden Bears claimed four event wins, five program top 10s and 11 PSAC qualifying times or marks.

Trey Hamlin III (Townsend, Del./Caravel Academy) had a tremendous collegiate debut, winning the long jump and finishing runner-up in the triple jump while nearly setting NCAA provisional marks in both events. The freshman from Townsend, Del., bested 40 competitors in the long jump with a best jump of 7.14m (23'5.25") that ranked fifth all-time at KU and qualified him for the PSAC Indoor Championships. Teammate Gabe Sample (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) made it a KU 1-2 with a PSAC qualifying mark of 7.03m (23'0.75").

In the triple jump, Hamlin III posted the seventh-best jump in program history, measuring 14.37m (47'1.75") for another PSAC mark.

Another freshman turning heads early this season is Berks County native Kyle Archie (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg). The Muhlenberg High School grad jumped into a tie for sixth in school history in the high jump, winning the event by clearning 2.01m (6'7").

The Maroon and Gold's two remaining event wins came on the track where James Washburn (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) set the fastest time in the 400m with a PSAC cut time of 50.56 and Kayden Platania (Buena, N.J./Buena Regional) took the 3000m in 9:22.42.

Michael Fellin (Sheppton, Pa./Marian Catholic) tied a school record and set a new personal best with a 6.80 in the 60m finals. Daron Haggns was third in 6.99 and Sean Singleton (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was eighth in 7.29. During prelims, Haggans matched his previous career-best time of 6.96, which ranks fifth at KU. Singleton went 7.07 in prelims.

Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) and Jake Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) each registered PSAC qualifying marks in the weight throw. Solonoski was the runner-up with a top throw of 17.00m (55'9.25"), while Kelly placed fifth with a throw that measured 15.54m (51'0").

Kutztown will travel to the University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center next Friday, Jan. 24, for the Winter Evening Invite.
