KUTZTOWN, Pa. - It was just the way No. 25 Kutztown women's soccer would have hoped to start the 2024 regular season. KU scored four first half goals and kept visiting Concord off the scoreboard, walking off Keystone Field 4-0 victors Thursday afternoon in the first of two games it will play against teams from West Virginia in the next three days.
The Golden Bears (1-0 overall) started the season off strong against the Mountain Lions (0-1). Sophomore Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek) made her Maroon and Gold debut strong, scoring two of the four goals for Kutztown, one assisted by Taylor Rapel (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg). The three other goal were also scored in the first half, with tallies coming from Isabella Rossetti (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), assisted by Katelyn Economopoulos (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and the fourth goal from sophomore Alyssa Galayda (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty).
Kutztown had an 11-7 shot advantage over Concord with two saves coming from Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) as the KU defense held firm for 90 minutes for the opening shutout.
The Golden Bears next matchup will be back at Keystone Field on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m. against Charleston.
