Golden Bears take 10th at Northeast Roundup

NEW CASTLE, Del. -- In its final competition ahead of next weekend's East Coast Conference Championship, the Kutztown University women's bowling team registered a 10th-place finish at the Northeast Roundup, which concluded Sunday from Bowlerama.

The Golden Bears started on the right foot with an 897-881 victory over Chestnut Hill behind the lineup of Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic), Alyssa Blood (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone), Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial). KU rolled a high game of 224 in game two of the five-game Baker match.

Despite following the Chestnut Hill victory up with its high match of the day, Kutztown wasn't able to secure a second win in a 1064-950 loss to Felician.

It was a tough day overall for the Maroon and Gold, who were never quite able to get back on track. Kutztown (54-29) fell to host Wilmington (Del.), 882-870, and Caldwell, 905-876, to close out the seeding matches. During the two-match stretch, the Bears rolled just one 200+ game, that being a 220 in game two against Wilmington.

Kutztown faced off against 23rd-ranked Niagara for ninth-place but the best-of-seven Baker match went to the Purple Eagles by a 4-1 score. The Golden Bears registered a 201 in game three and kept the series alive with a 202-182 win in game four before Niagara took the match in game five.

Angela Reynolds' team ended the weekend with a total pinfall of 8,280 across five traditional and four Baker matches for a 184.0 average.

Kutztown will travel to AMF Dewey Garden Lanes in Rochester, N.Y. for the 2024 ECC Championship next Friday-Sunday, March 22-24. The Golden Bears came within a win of reaching the championship match last year.
