NEW CASTLE, Del. -- The Kutztown University women's bowling team won its 50th match of the season during a 4-0 Saturday at the Northeast Roundup.
The Golden Bears are currently seventh of 17 teams in the standings with a pinfall of 4,687 (187.5 average) after Saturday's five traditional matches, with five Baker matches to come on Sunday.
KU (53-25) outlasted William Smith, 929-925, for its 50th win of the season in its opening match.
Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) and
Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) led the Bears with games of 231 and 209, respectively, while
Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) added a 189.
Hanaway, Sromovski and
Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) all shared the team lead with games of 195 in a 960-862 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas that pushed Kutztown to 2-0 on the day. It was a solid match for the entire lineup as
Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York) turned in a 192 and Brenneman a 183.
Kutztown continued its winning ways with an 891-803 victory over New Jersey City. Snyder rolled a 203 to pace KU and Hanaway provided a 184.
The Bears rolled a 930 during a bye round, getting a 196 from Sromovski, a 192 from Snyder and a 190 by Hanaway.
Sipe produced Kutztown's high game of the day with a 258 to help the Bears close strong with a 977-654 win over Bloomfield. Hanaway chipped in with a 195.
Hanaway finished with the team's top average for the day with a 194.6 across five games (973 series). She ranked 23rd in the individual standings. Sromovski was 27th with a 192.6 average and Sipe 28th at 192.0.
Merrimack edged Mount St. Mary's by one pin (5,068 to 5,067) to hold the team lead after Saturday's matches. FDU is third at 5,034, Mercyhurst fourth at 4,895 and Delaware State fifth at 4,868. KU is 38 pins back of William Smith for sixth.
Kutztown will face off against four opponents before its final Baker match is set by seeding on Sunday. Bowling begins at 9 a.m. from Bowlerama.
