Cary, N.C.-- The Kutztown University baseball team (2-3) fell victim to an eight-run seventh inning, falling to No. 23 Goldey-Beacom (4-2) 10-0 early Saturday at the USA Baseball Complex in North Carolina.
The Golden Bears registered four hits in the loss, coming from Antonio Rossillo (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Jimmy Kerley (Indian Trail, N.C./Sun Valley), Michael Burns (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), and Joey Pettinelli (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown). Zach Male (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) got the start for Kutztown, going six innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Cody Barberio (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown), Gavin Grande (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep), and AJ Torres (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) saw action in relief. Justin Jump earned the win for the Lightning.
The game was scoreless until the fifth frame when two RBI singles from Goldey-Beacom made it 2-0. Then, in the seventh, the Lighting plated eight runs on seven hits to make it 10-0. KU struggled to make a comeback, registering only one hit the rest of the game.
The Golden Bears wrap up action in North Carolina tomorrow with a doubleheader against Frostburg State. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m
