NEW CASTLE, Del. -- A recent hot streak from
Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) continued Saturday as the Kutztown University senior bowled two of the top 10 games in program history on her way to MVP honors at the Wilmington (Del.) Wildcat DII/DIII Challenge. Teammate
Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) secured the fourth-best average in traditional play to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
Last weekend, Sromovski rolled a 280 gainst Lincoln Memorial for the third-best game in KU history. The Wilkes-Barre native approached that number again, Saturday, with a 269 in a victory over host Wilmington and a 268 in a winning effort against Emmanuel (Ga.) to close out a superb 1,174 series and tournament-leading 234.8 average. The 269 game ranks seventh all-time at KU, while the 268 is tied for eighth.
Like Sromovski, Hanaway put up four 200+ games, including a 237 in the Golden Bears' bye round and a 235 against Emmanuel to finish with a total pinfall of 1,087 (217.4 average).
Kutztown (47-24) had to bounce back from a 983-947 opening match loss to Felician, in which
Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) provided a team-high 233 along with Hanaway's 221 and Sromovski's 206.
The Maroon and Gold got into the win column with a 70-pin advantage over Adelphi, 892-822.
Alyssa Blood (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) led the way with a 191, while Sromovski totaled a 185, Hanaway a 179 and Brenneman a 178.
Kutztown put forth its high score of the day with an 1127 in the bye round. Sromovski went for a 246, leading all five Golden Bears in achieving 200+ games. Joining the All-East Coast Conference performer were Hanaway (237),
Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York) (231), Blood (208) and Brenneman (205).
Angela Reynolds' team caught fire the rest of the way, racking up a 1013 against Wilmington and a 1088 against Emmanuel.
In both victories, Sromovski, Hanaway and Brenneman topped 200. Sromovski had a 269, Hanaway a 215 and Brenneman a 200 against the Wildcats. Sromovski closed with a 268, while Hanaway and Brenneman sported matching 235s against Emmanuel.
Brenneman ended her day 10th in the individual standings with a 1051 score (210.2 average).
