MOUNT JOY, Pa. – Senior Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) rolled the third-highest traditional game in program history with a 280 and the Kutztown University women's bowling team took down No. 4 North Carolina A&T to highlight Saturday's action at the Mount Shootout.
 
Scores were high across the board as teams jostled for positioning ahead of tomorrow's best-of-seven Baker matches. Sromovski put forth 200+ games in all five matches, including the aforementioned 280. The most recent East Coast Conference (ECC) Bowler of the Week came out strong with a 212 and Meghan Ripley (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) contributed a 202 as the Golden Bears (38-21) fell to Alvernia, 1002-909.
 
Kutztown recovered to edge Coppin State, 914-898, behind 203s from Sromovski and Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York), along with another strong game from Alyssa Blood (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) (190).
 
The Golden Bears were just heating up, however. Four players registered 200+ games as KU posted its highest score of the season in a 1031-1020 victory over the fourth-ranked Aggies of North Carolina A&T. It was the program's first win against a top five opponent since knocking off No. 3 Stephen F. Austin, Oct. 31, 2015.
 
Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) led the way with a 214, ahead of Sromovski (213), Sipe (209) and Ripley (202). Blood was just seven pins away from putting the entire lineup in the 200s.
 
Kutztown's season-high score was short lived, with the 1031 falling in the very next match. Sromovski's 280 and a career-high 226 by Blood boosted the Bears to a 1039, but Lincoln Memorial was a touch better, winning the match with an 1104.
 
Sromovski's 280 marked the program's highest game since Lauren Stamm's 289 against Ursuline, Dec. 1, 2012. Lauren Stamm and Kayla Stamm (289 vs. Sacred Heart, Jan. 30, 2010) share the program record for high game in KU history.
 
Saint Francis (Pa.) snuck by the Bears, 967-904, in the finale, despite a 207 from Sromovski and a 194 from Hanaway. Sromovski finished the day sixth in the individual standings with a 1,115 score and 223.0 average.
 
Unfortunately for Kutztown, high scores were abundant on Saturday. That resulted in little movement in the standings. The Golden Bears are currently 11th with a score of 9,219 (184.4 average).
 
North Carolina A&T got past Mount St. Mary's for the top spot with 10,533 (210.7 average). Niagara, Saint Francis (Pa.) and FDU are the rest of the top five.
 
Sunday's best-of-seven Baker matches will begin at 9 a.m., from Clearview Lanes.
