KUTZTOWN, Pa. – It's that time of year the Kutztown field hockey team lives for and many of the same scenarios are in play from last year when KU won the NCAA Division II national championship, the first in program history.
Â
The fourth-seeded Golden Bears (14-5 overall) host an NCAA quarterfinal round game for the second year-in-a-row, the first time in program history they have a home NCAA game in back-to-back seasons. And just like in 2023, the winner will advance to the final four in a different state, Gaffney, S.C. KU won the title last season in Manchester, N.H.
Â
Kutztown welcomes fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire out of the NE10 Conference this Saturday, Nov. 16, at noon, from Andre Reed Stadium.
Â
The Golden Bears last played the Penmen (16-3) in NCAAs back in 2019 when they traveled up to Manchester, N.H., and won in a penalty shootout to advance to the final four. The two teams met earlier this season back on Sept. 14, with the Maroon and Gold leaving Manchester, N.H., with a 5-2 victory. KU has now competed in the NCAA Tournament eight different seasons and is 6-6 all-time.
Â
Tickets for Saturday are $10 for adults and $5 for both students and senior citizens.
Â
Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference released its All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) were voted to the First Team,
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and
Danielle Panati (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) were tabbed to the Second Team and
Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) was recognized on the Third Team. All five are repeat All-PSAC selections.
Â
The other quarterfinal matchups include PSAC champion and top seed Shippensburg hosting the eighth seed, Limestone. Second-seeded Assumption hosting the seventh seed, Saint Anselm. Third-seeded East Stroudsburg hosting the sixth seed, Bloomsburg.
Â
Limestone University in South Carolina is the host of the NCAA Semifinals (2 and 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22) and the NCAA Championship Game (1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24).
