ERIE, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's bowling team wrapped up play at the season-opening Mercyhurst Invitational with a 2-3 record in Baker format matches, Sunday, for a sixth-place team finish.
The Golden Bears fell to Wright State, 938-862, in their first match of the day before bouncing back with a 903-750 victory over D'Youville.
The lineup of
Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York),
Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York),
Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton),
Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and
Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) contributed its second straight win, 928-811, over Penn State Behrend.
A pair of 200+ games weren't enough to take down 25th-ranked Niagara in KU's (6-4) final seeding match. The Purple Eagles prevailed by a 978-931 score.
Kutztown and Daemen squared off for fifth place in a best-of-seven Baker match. The Golden Bears twice had one game leads after a 204-125 victory in game one and a 226-158 triumph in game three.
Daemen answered with two straight wins but the Maroon and Gold forced game seven with a 208-175 win in game six. Daemen was able to hold on, though, winning the decisive game by a 182-159 score.
Kutztown will travel to New Castle, Del., next weekend to take part in the Bud Whitman Memorial.
