McDonald Paces Golden Bears in Shutout of Mansfield

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team blanked the Mansfield Mounties by a score of 2-0 on Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division matchup on Saturday at Karl Van Norman Field.

Junior forward Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) set the tempo on the offense, scoring a pair of goals in the Golden Bears' shutout victory – one in each half of play. She stayed on the attack throughout the match, attempting nine of Kutztown's 27 shots, including six of the team's 13 shots on frame.

Kutztown (6-1-3, 4-1-3 PSAC East) recorded a shutout for the first time since a 2-0 win over Lock Haven on Sept. 14, as the Mounties (0-6-3, 0-6-1 PSAC East) failed to convert on any of their five shots on the afternoon.

Freshman Cassidy Howes (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) got the start in goal for the Golden Bears, making three saves in her third shutout of the season.

KU outpaced Mansfield in most categories, including shots (27-5), shots on goal (13-3) and corner kicks (7-0).

The Golden Bears stay on the road for a matchup at Lock Haven on Saturday, Oct. 12, at noon before returning home to take on Millersville the following Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at Keystone Field.
