Box Score SHEPHARDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team fell to the 16th-ranked Shepherd Rams by a score of 2-1 at the Shepherd Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division bout.
The Golden Bears (8-2-5, 6-2-5 PSAC East) were outmatched by a Rams (9-1-4, 9-1-2 PSAC East) team that continues to lead the East Division over KU and West Chester, and confirmed their standing with an outstanding home performance.
Shepherd limited KU in their typical strong areas, as Shepherd outproduced Kutztown in corners (3-2) and shots on goal (5-4). Fouls were an additional burden on the Golden Bears in their loss, as their seven fouls included a second-half yellow card.
Kutztown's lone goal came from junior forward Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), who led the team with four total shots, two of them on target. Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek) came off the bench and attempted a pair of shots for the Golden Bears.
Freshman Cassidy Howes (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) started in goal for KU, allowing both goals while recording three saves and facing five total shots on frame.
The Golden Bears return to Keystone Field for their final regular season homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. against Bloomsburg. The team's senior day will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 at noon against Mansfield.
