NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team continued their success from last week, as they pulled a 4-0 record in traditional play on the first day of the Bud Whitman Memorial Invitational, hosted by Chestnut Hill University at the Bowlerama Lanes in New Castle, Del., on Saturday.
It was another strong showing for reigning East Coast Conference Bowler of the Week Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial), who recorded four 200-pin games and rolled a high of 245 to pace the Golden Bears (10-4), who sit in third place in total pinfall on the first of two days. The senior placed sixth overall individually, putting her in line for All-Tournament Team honors.
While Sromovski led the way, junior Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) also posted four 200-pin efforts, setting a 248 high-water mark in the win over Felician. Her efforts put her in 10th place overall in the individual standings.
Kutztown opened with a day-high 999 in an open frame, then proceeded to outroll Felician (978-935), Holy Family (847-764), Caldwell (961-946) and Long Island (990-867) on the way to a perfect start in Delaware.
The duo of Sromovski and Brenneman were joined by Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton), Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York) and Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) to open the day, while Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York), Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) and Natalie Conrad (Wyoming, Pa./Dallas) relieved the starters as the competition went on.
Kutztown's opening day performance puts the Golden Bears in elite company, as No. 18 Sacred Heart leads the tournament and No. 20 Fairleigh Dickinson follows. The Golden Bears sit ahead of No. 23 Delaware State (fourth), while Dominican (N.Y.) rounds out the top five.
The Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament concludes with baker matches tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 13.
