SHEPERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The seventh-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team (6-0-2, 5-0-1 PSAC East) used goals from
Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) and
Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) to overcome Shepherd (3-2-2, 1-2-2 PSAC East) 2-1 at the SU Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears blitzed the Rams early via McDonald's goal in the second minute. The Rams responded 17 minutes later when Annabell Wunderlich tied the match at 1-1. The teams battled all afternoon, but KU's winning moment came in the 68th minute when Endres fired in the game-winning goal.
The Golden Bears nearly doubled the Rams statistically on offense, leading in shots (12-6) and shots on goal (8-3). KU poured it on in the second half though, outshooting Shepherd 7-1 while forcing four second-half saves out of the Rams' goalkeeper.
Along with her team-leading sixth goal of the season, Endres was at the heart of everything for KU. The Medford, N.J. native had four shots, three of which were on goal. Allie Tierney (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) came off the bench and provided an offensive spark for KU, putting two shots on goal. McDonald, Isabella Rossetti (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), and Alyssa Galayda (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) all registered a shot on frame. Cassandra Baker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) made two saves in goal for KU, while Alayna Burgamy made six saves for Shepherd.
The Golden Bears remain perfect in PSAC East play and remain undefeated in the 15 all-time matchups against the Rams. KU returns home for a big matchup against Bloomsburg, who were ranked in the last United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Poll. The Golden Bears and Huskies face off at Keystone Field at Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
