ERIE, Pa. – Senior
Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) was at it again. The midfielder scored two goals and helped give Kutztown women's soccer its first victory of the season, defeating Concord 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Gannon University.
Â
The Golden Bears (1-0-1 overall) doubled up their total from the season opener where they tied Charleston 1-1. Endres also had that goal and has all three tallies on the season for KU.
Â
The two strikes from Endres were both important, as the first one, in the 61st minute, tied the game after the Mountain Lions (0-1-1) broke the deadlock with a 50th minute goal, following a scoreless first half. Her second of the game, in the 81st minute, proved to be the game winner as the defense and
Cassandra Baker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) kept Concord out of the net the final 10 minutes. Baker finished with five saves, getting her first start of the season.
Â
Dana Wentz (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and
Caroline Thompson (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) assisted on the first goal, while
Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) had the assist on the second.
Â
The Maroon and Gold outshot the Mountain Lions 19-9 overall, 8-6 on goal, and had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
Kutztown will make its home debut as it opens up play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference when it hosts Millersville next Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m., from Keystone Field.
