BOYDS, Md. -- It was a night and day difference from day one to day two for Kutztown women's rugby at the 2023 Collegiate Rugby Championship National 7s in Boyds, Md. After dropping their opening two matches Friday and not scoring a single point, the Golden Bears bounced back and won both of their matches Saturday, one in shutout fashion, to win the Challenge Shield championship.
KU defeated Texas A&M 24-0 Saturday morning in the semifinal of the Challenge Shield and then followed that up with a 24-15 triumph over Aquinas (Mich.) in the final during the afternoon.
Kutztown had a tough go to its start of the championships as it played in the Premier Cup level and lost to both Brown and Indiana.
KU's 2022-23 season came to a close as it finished 11-5 overall and competed in four 7s tournaments this spring.
