NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kutztown University women's rugby went 3-3 over the weekend and bounced back from an early defeat Sunday morning to finish sixth overall out of the field at the national Collegiate Rugby Championships in New Orleans, La.
The Golden Bears won two of their three matches in pool play on Saturday, including victories over Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Central Missouri, to advance to the quarterfinal round.
In its first match of the day on Sunday, KU fell just short against Roger Williams University 7-5 in the quarterfinals. Roger Williams scored just at the end of the match and slotted their conversion to claim the victory.
Jenna Wilson (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) had the lone KU try.
Kutztown bounced back in a big way then, taking down IUPUI 22-5 to advance to the fifth-place match.
Megan Babinsky (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) led the Golden Bears with two tries, while both
Maddy Forster (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and
Matilda Sullivan (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) had one.
The Maroon and Gold, however, had their tournament come to an end, dropping a match to Iowa State 22-10.
Emily Duff (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Babinsky both recorded a try.
Kutztown's 2022 spring season comes to a close going 3-3 in the two-day weekend at CRCs.
