CARY, N.C.-- The Kutztown University baseball team (3-2) dropped a game to Clarion (1-5) 8-4 down in North Carolina Saturday evening. The teams were originally scheduled to face off in a doubleheader, but the weather caused the games to be delayed and become a singular contest.
At the plate,
Ethan Martini (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge) went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Colin Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and
Gavin Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) also recorded a multi-hit game for the Golden Bears.
Antonio Rossillo (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) registered an RBI in the loss.
On the mound,
Zach Male (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) got the start and went four and two-thirds, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out six. He took the loss while Michael Proios took the win.
The Golden Eagles got on the board first inning via a sac fly to make it a 1-0 game.
Neither team got their offenses going again untill the fourth frame. Martini opened the scoring for KU with an RBI double, followed by an error from Clarion's pitcher which made the game 3-1. Rossillo then hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game.
The Golden Eagles responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the fourth to take the 5-4 lead. Clarion kept the scoring going in the next inning, putting three runs across the plate to make it 8-4, which it held on to for the win.
The Golden Bears conclude the weekend in North Carolina against Goldey-Beacom on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
