Women's bowling ends weekend with win over Saint Thomas Aquinas, takes ninth at Wildcat DII Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Kutztown University women's bowling entered Sunday action at the Wilmington-hosted Wildcat DII Invitational in seventh place, but suffered a pair of game seven losses in bracket play before topping Saint Thomas Aquinas to finish ninth on the weekend.

Best-of-seven Baker matches against Bloomfield and D'Youville each came down to a seventh game, but the Golden Bears (35-30) were unable to come up with the victory in either.

Kutztown's lineup of Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York), Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic), Jordan Dean (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor), Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) and Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) took the first game off Bloomfield and registered a 214 in game four to even the series at two games apiece. The teams split the next two games and Bloomfield advanced on the strength of a 222-179 win in the decisive game.

The Maroon and Gold had a chance for retribution against a D'Youville team it lost to in traditional play Saturday. Kutztown got off to a great start with close wins in games one and two, including a match-high 216 score in game two. Angela Reynolds' team took a 3-1 series lead with a 195-175 victory in game four, but D'Youville rallied to win the final three games, throwing matching 202s in games six and seven.

In the ninth-place match against Saint Thomas Aquinas, KU did not drop a game. Only a 180-180 deadlock in game three kept the Bears from the sweep. They rolled a 200 in game two and a 213 in game four on their way to taking the series 4.5-0.5.

Despite the ninth-place finish as a result of Sunday's outcome, Kutztown still finished the weekend with the seventh-best pin total (8,713) and average (174.3).

Kutztown will close out its regular season back at Bowlerama in New Castle, Del., a month from now when they compete in the Northeast Roundup, March 18-19. The East Coast Conference Championships will follow March 24-26.
