KU Volleyball earns match sweep over Millersville on senior day

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown women's volleyball walked off of the Keystone Arena floor as winners for the final time in 2023 as KU swept Millersville in straight sets Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division matchup on senior day.

Prior to the match, head coach Allison Keeley and the Golden Bears (10-15 overall, 3-9 PSAC East) recognized four student-athletes for senior day. Graduate students Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic), Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Gabriela Fialova (Ledec nad Sazavou, Czech Republic/Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka), along with senior Cat Farole (Orefield, Pa./Parkland), for their hard work and dedication to the program both on and off the court.

The Maroon and Gold came into the match with their only two conference victories against Lock Haven and were just 4-6 at home. This was a much-needed and well-deserved win for the program and specifically the four seniors.

Scores of the match were 25-21, 27-25 and 25-23.

All three sets were back-and-forth with each team leading at different times throughout each three, but Kutztown made the last runs when it was needed most. KU had a 9-3 advantage in service aces, where they began rallies.

Three Golden Bears helped the offense in the match, finishing in double figures in kills. Doss tallied 16, Fialova recorded 14 and Sarah Hess (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) finished with 11. With two matches still to be played this season, Doss and Fialova both rank inside the top-10 in program history in kills in a season. Doss ranks sixth with 426 kills and Fialova ranks 10th with 396. Fialova also had double-digit digs on Saturday with 15. Farole finished with 41 assists. Agosti had a team-high 16 digs. Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) contributed five kills and three blocks. Mallory Hoch (Zionsville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) also had double figures in digs with 10.

Kutztown concludes its 2023 season with two matches in two days next weekend, both on the road. KU is at Shepherd next Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m., followed by a match at Shippensburg the next day at 1 p.m.
