BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Kutztown University women's bowling team went 3-2, with wins over Saint Anslem, Wagner, and Coppin State, and sit in third place after the first day of the CSU Lady Eagles Invitational Saturday at AMF Woodlawn Lanes down in Baltimore.
The day was highlighted by 200+ games from the trio of Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York), Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York), and Chloe Sromovski and a team average of 171.9. Brenneman's top performance came in a losing effort in the third game against Felician, while Sipe's and Sromovski's came in the wins over Wagner and Coppin State.
KU opened the day with a tight loss to Belmont Abbey. Sipe and Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) both rolled 188's, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Bears fell 884-842. Angela Reynolds' squad turned it around in match two, with all five Golden Bears bowling a 150 or better, led by a 180 from Brenneman and a 176 from Meghan Ripley (Bel Air, Md./Fallston), to top Saint Anslem 852-751.
Game three against Felician was a 922-871 loss but was highlighted by KU's first 200+ performance from Brennaman. The Golden Bears found their groove in the final two games of the day. KU downed Wagner 908-869, with Sipe's 202 leading the charge. It was then Sromovski's turn, as her 202 led the Golden Bears over the hosts Coppin State 824-764 to end the day 3-2.
Felician and Belmont Abbey sit first and second after day one of the invitational with 4-1 records and pin totals of 4,588 and 4,402. The Golden Bears have a pin total of 4,297 and sit within striking distance of the top spot after day one.
KU is back in action at the CSU Lady Eagles Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 19 starting at 9 a.m. The Golden Bears are slated to face Fayetteville State and Howard to start the day, followed by an opponent that has yet to be determined.
