Diehl, Hollar propel men’s cross country to sixth place at PSAC Cross Country Championship

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Led by All-PSAC finishes from Andrew Diehl (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and Jack Hollar (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), the Kutztown University men's cross country team earned its best team finish since 2019, finishing sixth at the 2023 edition of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Cross Country Championship at Bloomsburg Saturday morning.

Diehl was the first runner to cross the line as an All-PSAC Second Team finisher in 16th place with a time of 27:05.7. He's the third freshman to earn an all-conference honor in the last two years, joining Cody Schabener (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Adam Brocato (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) from last season. It's another feather in the cap of the Carlise native who's had a spectacular first year in the Maroon & Gold.

Just a second behind Diehl was Hollar in 17th-place. It's the first all-conference honor for the junior from East Stroudsburg. Freshman Robbie Lloyd (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) nearly captured an All-PSAC nod, finishing a strong 32nd-place with a time of 27:42.0.

Kayden Platania (Buena, N.J./Buena Regional), Jacob Huber (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley), and Connor Murphy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) finished in the center of the pack, with finishes of 62nd, 66th, and 74th. Schabener, Brocato, and Port Habalar (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) were the other Golden Bears to compete on the day.

Shippensburg captured the team title with 26 points, followed by Slippery Rock and IUP. The Raiders' had four of the top five finishers, with Garrett Quinan capturing the individual title.

After back-to-back strong team finishes, the Golden Bears now turn their attention the the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships in two weeks. That race on Saturday, Nov. 4 will take place at the West Branch Cross Country Course at Lock Haven.
