Hearn, Remolde combine for 33 points as KU drops final PSAC crossover game at Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) both finished in double figures in scoring, as Kutztown women's basketball fell to Pitt-Johnstown 70-56 on the road Wednesday evening in the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game.

The Golden Bear (5-7 overall, 3-3 PSAC) duo combined for 33 points with Hearn recording 20 and Remolde tallying 13. Their offensive outputs came in different ways as Hearn shot 9-for-15 (60%) from the floor, including 2-of-2 from long distance. Remolde went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line in adding most of her points from the charity stripe. Remolde went 12-for-12 from the line her freshman season, the second-most free-throws made at a 100% clip in program history, behind Jess Brady's 14-for-14 on Jan. 27, 2007. Hearn (6) and Remolde (5) also combined for 11 rebounds.

KU erased a two-point deficit (8-6) in the first quarter and finished the last 4:25 on a 10-5 run to lead 16-13. The Mountain Cats (8-4, 5-1) outscored the Maroon and Gold 19-11 in the second quarter and went into the locker room ahead 32-27 at halftime.

Kutztown fell behind by as many as 11 (41-30) with 4:26 left in the third quarter and trailed 46-39 after three. The Golden Bears pulled to within 46-44 just 0:41 into the fourth quarter, but UPJ scored the next seven points and never gave up the lead the rest of the way.

Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) tallied eight points, three assists and two rebounds. Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) had six points, three rebounds and two blocks. Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) totaled five points and three rebounds. Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) rounded out the scoring with four points.

Kutztown opens up play in the PSAC Eastern Division with its next game on Saturday, Jan. 7, when it hosts West Chester at 1 p.m., from Keystone Arena.
