KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) finished two blocks shy of her first career triple-double, which also would have tied the school record for blocks in a game as Kutztown women's basketball dropped a 60-50 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division contest Monday night at Keystone Arena.
Â
The center from Elizabethtown recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks, while adding three steals and two assists in a team-high 35 minutes of action. The eight rebounds is tied for second all-time for blocks in a game in program history, two shy of Advia Campbell's 10 set against West Chester on Dec. 7, 2013.
Â
The Golden Bears (9-9 overall, 7-5 PSAC) lost for the second time in as many days, falling at first-place Shippensburg, 68-62, in overtime, last Saturday, Jan. 21, on the road. It's the first loss to the Warriors (10-8, 6-6) since Feb. 12, 2020. KU swept the two games last season.
Â
East Stroudsburg led for 18:15 throughout the contest, scoring the game's first six points, and held a lead of nine midway through the second quarter before taking a 25-20 halftime advantage. KU pulled to within just four (36-32) with 3:18 left in the third quarter, but the Warriors scored seven of the last nine points to go on top by nine (43-34) after three.
Â
Their lead quickly jumped to 14 (48-34) 1:04 into the final frame and it never got less than nine the rest of the way.
Â
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) also finished with 11 points each. Remolde has six rebounds and three blocks, while Pulliam added three boards.
Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) contributed eight points, four rebounds and two assists.
Shannon Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) scored four points off the bench for KU.
Â
Kutztown has another quick, two-day turnaround, but it will remain at home as it hosts Bloomsburg in East action on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 p.m., from Keystone Arena.
