SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.-- The Kutztown University women's basketball team (9-8,7-4 PSAC) fell in overtime to Shippensburg (14-3, 9-2 PSAC) 68-62 Saturday afternoon at Heigies Field House.
Fourth-quarter and overtime offensive struggles plagued the Golden Bears down the stretch. KU didn't register a basket in the final five minutes of regulation, scoring only 11 points over the final frame and the overtime period
The Golden Bears also struggled to protect the basketball, turning it over 19 times to Shippensburg's nine. The Raiders took full advantage of the turnovers as they outscored KU 21-4 off turnovers. Despite the victory, Shippensburg only shot 27% from the floor.
Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) led the way for KU as she put together one of the best games of her college career. The senior from Elizabethtown, Pa. registered her second career double-double, netting 16 points to go along with 14 rebounds. It's her second double-double in the last three games.
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) had another solid game off the bench for KU, scoring 14 points while grabbing four rebounds. Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) were the other Golden Bears in double figures with 10 points each. Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) ended the game with nine points and five rebounds. Remolde and Zerman both fouled out late in the contest.
The Golden Bears have a quick turnaround as they host East Stroudsburg back at Keystone Arena on Monday, Jan. 23. That game will tip off at 5:30. Monday's basketball doubleheader is also the Its On Us / White-Out promotion game.
