KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team (1-0) rolled over non-conference opponent Saint Michael's (0-1) 10-0 at Andre Reed Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Six different Golden Bears got on the scoresheet in the game. Graduate student Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) led the way with a hat-trick in the game, while senior Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) and junior Andie Sierer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) both had two goals. Junior Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) also notched two assists in the contest.
Kutztown's 10 goal output is tied for the fourth-most goals scored in a game in program history. The team also put a whopping 38 shots on cage, forcing 28 saves out of the Saint Michael's netminder.
KU got out to a big lead early, scoring five goals in the first quarter. From there, the Golden Bears controlled possession while tacking on three more goals before the half to make it 8-0.
Marci Scheuing's squad put two more in the cage in the third quarter to make it 10-0. The defense played a solid game, allowing only two shots from the Purple Knights in the shutout.
KU will play host to Southern Connecticut State tomorrow afternoon at Andre Reed Stadium to wrap up the team's Labor Day weekend slate. That game will start at 1:30 p.m.Â
